Bert Jansch Tribute Evening a Highlight of The Year
I was privileged to be asked to join a whole host of musical luminaries for a tribute to the Folk Guitar legend Bert Jansch which took place on 3rd December 2014. What can I say but what an experience, it's certainly up there with my most memorable experiences ever. I sang the traditional Irish song Black Waterside accompanied by none other than Martin Carthy and also Fresh As A Sweet Sunday Morning, a beautiful song penned by Bert Jansch, joined by the wonderful Bernard Butler and Paul Wassif both on guitars. I also joined Mara Carlyle and her band, last minute, with a nimble fingered pluck on the ukelele, for her fantastic version of one of Bert's songs.
Left to right; Gerry Diver, Lisa Knapp, Robert Plant, Mara Carlyle
I felt like I was walking on air most of the time rubbing shoulders with my musical hereoes: Jacqui McShee, Bonnie Dobson, Danny Thompson, Robert Plant, Donovan, Beverley Martin, Wizz Jones, Martin Carthy, Martin Simpson etc Lordy!! What a brilliant night and a pleasure to be so close to such stunning performances, what a pleasure to have shared the stage with you all! There's a review here if http://www.theguardian.com/music/2013/dec/04/a-celebration-bert-jansch-review . The concert was filmed, for BBC4 I think, and there was talk of that being shown some time in Spring 2014. I will post again about that when I hear anything.
Thanks for the music Mr Jansch!
